Objective
Risk management is an important skill needed throughout all aspects of geotechnical engineering. Most decisions need to be made without knowing for certain how the decision will play out, introducing risk and making it difficult to communicate those decisions to stakeholders such as owners, regulatory agencies and the public. This course will provide practical tools to make, analyze and communicate risk-based decisions. It will incorporate case histories and audience participation.
Course Topics
- Design of Shallow and Deep Foundations
- LRFD with Emphasis in Offshore Geo-Structures
- Decision Analysis
- Random Variables
- Reliability-Based Design
- Value of Information Analysis
