Welcome to the 47th annual Houston Marine Insurance Seminar to be held on September 16th 18th 2012. We are looking forward to our 47th year as the leading Global Energy and Marine Seminar. Well over 700 paid delegates annually come to Houston for the three-day event.

The 2011 seminar continued our string of successful events allowing us to carry on our support of 13 educational institutions with a total grant of $110,000. The schools are truly grateful to the delegates and the seminar for that generosity. The average yearly seminar donation to various educational institutions is over $100,000. Over $2,200,000 in total has been donated, which has provided scholarships in insurance, to admiralty law libraries, and for moot court competitions.

Our seminar meetings will once again be held in the Ballroom of the Westin Galleria Hotel, 5060 West Alabama. The lovely Westin Galleria was renovated in 2010, and all delegate bookings directly help to offset costs and maximize donations to the education institutions mentioned above.

Since 1965, what is now Marine Insurance Seminars, Inc. has been sponsoring the Houston Marine Insurance Seminar. In all that time only 2008 was missed due to Hurricane Ike. Marine Insurance Seminars, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) corporation whose purpose is to provide and promote educational opportunities in Marine and Energy Insurance and Admiralty Law. University students are also invited to the seminar to learn about Marine and Energy Insurance and to develop contacts for careers in our industry.

Once again in 2012, we have presenters representing Marine and Energy Underwriters, Brokers, Buyers, Attorneys, Adjusters, and Educators. The speakers will discuss a number of current insurance topics such as the State of the Insurance Marketplace, Pollution Law & Environmental Salvage, Offshore Development & Risk Management, FPSO s, and Captive Companies. Approval for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits are being applied for with the Texas Bar Association and the Louisiana Bar Association. The seminar has been approved by the Maritime Law Association of the United States for 10 CLE credits towards meeting the requirements for MLA Proctor Membership. Approval is also being applied for Continuing Education (CE) credits for Agents and Adjusters in Louisiana, Mississippi (adjusters only), New Jersey, New York, Texas, and Washington. (For States not listed, please inquire regarding Completion Certificates.)

The 2012 seminar registration fee will be $450. Registration can be accomplished online and credit cards or checks are accepted. Please mail the pre-registration checks to Sammie Aden at the address on the form. Registration questions can be addressed to Sammie at sammie.aden@chaucerplc.com. Seminar functions will be held at The Westin Galleria. Reservations for accommodations can be made on the web at: http://www.starwoodmeeting.com/Book/mii11 or by mail using the hotel reservation form. All hotel reservations are to be made direct with the hotel.

We sponsor two cocktail parties open to a spouse or date of registrants. The first is Sunday night from 6 PM to 8 PM in the Ballroom at the Westin Galleria. Registration will also be available starting at 5 PM that same afternoon. The registration will again open at 8 AM on Monday morning. The Monday evening cocktail party will begin at 5:30 PM in the foyer.

I also want to personally recognize the hard work of the Seminar Committee. This group of volunteers starts in January of each year with a clean slate and puts in countless hours to make the seminar a success. Please extend your appreciation to them when you see them.
