Abstract

The variability of seabed and surface soil properties impacts the performance (and hence design) of offshore pipelines. It is important to quantify the variabilities in seabed features and properties, and pipe-seabed interaction characteristics along the pipeline route.

This presentation will outline different aspects of quantifying the variabilities in surface soils via testing and modeling (physical and analytical).

Dr. Vishal Dantal NGI

Vishal Dantal, Ph.D., P.E. from NGI at Houston

Vishal Dantal has graduated with his PhD and M.S. in geotechnical engineering from Texas A&M University. Currently working with NGI in Houston and has 4 years of experience in offshore geotechnics with special focus on 1-g model testing for pipeline-soil interaction. He has conducted axial 1-g pipe-soil interaction model testing for SAFEBUCK JIP project at NGI’s model testing laboratory. His consulting expertise include, laboratory testing on offshore soils, offshore site characterization, design of pile foundations, and offshore field testing. His research expertise from doctoral degree is on providing design recommendations for Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) walls by performing laboratory testing on backfills and performing numerical simulations on stability analyses for Texas Department of Transportation.
